iTeleport: VNC & RDP App Reviews

Desperately needs an update!

The iOS version of this app was updated in July 2016, and the Mac OS version desperately needs some of the same fixes. The desktop version doesn’t support current SSH, so you can’t set up a direct SSH-encrypted session to a host. It’s also buggy with certain types of screen content (blinking cursors, rotating/pulsing elements, etc.).

Great app, a little light on features.

For the extreme flakiness of Back To My Mac screen sharing, this program is a godsend. Firewalls? Not a problem. This busts right through and gives you some super fast screen sharing, and is absolutely killer -- with great support to boot! With that said, though, basic screen sharing is *all* this app does. There are a few important features that this app is missing compared to the built-in sharing used for Back To My Mac, in order of importance: - Virtual Display mode. When Im at home connecting to work, Id like to be able to switch to a virtual display so that I know others arent in the office watching any sensitive data thats on screen. - Clipboard sharing between host and guest machines. - Selecting only one host monitor (for multi-monitor setups) to share, rather than cramming all of them on one (potentially much smaller) screen that must be panned through. The price point is a bit high for not including (at least) the above features, but Ill be looking forward to seeing what the iTeleport team comes up with in the future!

Very fishy! Asks for passwords it doesnt really need, like GMail

Theres no reason for this application to ask for such passwords. By default if you just enter your gmail address and password youll be giving some people *you dont know and shouldnt trust* access to your personal gmail account. There is *no good reason* to trust these people with anything, and makes me very suspicious of this application.

Not yet ready for admin

I use iTeleport on my iPhone and iPad. Love it. For the Mac, not so much! I have hundreds of systems I connect to both Windows and Mac. The Mac version of iTeleport does let you setup manual configurations instead of just using a gmail account, but the list presented is a horizontal list of icons. Not easy to scroll through when youre trying to find a particular entry. When connecting to VNC servers that are not iTeleport Connect servers, youll find this mac version has some issues with performance and often when connecting to an UltraVNC server I find the keyboard doesnt work. Reconnecting several times will eventually allow the keyboard to work, but this version of iTeleport is not ready for the desktop in my opinion. **** Its now end of May 2012 **** Still no cut/copy/paste. The app crashes regularly when the VNC server is UltraVNC. And its just ridiculous to have to scroll horizontally to find connections. Cant believe this app is getting such good reviews. Do you folks use this product?

Truly Amazing!

This is the best money Ive spent on an app since owning a mac! iTeleport embodies the very spirit of Apple in that it simplifies what you need to accomplish, presents it in an appealing way, and than just works! If you have ever had to struggle with connecting to work using a VPN, or getting Back To My Mac configured with your router/modem than you probably now all the headaches that can go along with remote connections - iTeleport solves them ALL! I highly recommend this app! You will not regret it!!!! :D Rich

greatest vnc client ever made, tainted with gmail

I have to say iTeleport for iPad has significantly made my life easier for quite some time now. The main feature that has done this for me is the superb scrolling. iTeleport might be using some crazy voodoo that seems to lessen latency, or at least it seems, and its like night and day to someone like me who uses vnc constantly. Basically all vnc clients (accept for one or two in Linux) have horribly choppy scrolling which makes many many functions almost unusable. Especially when you are using creative apps like photoshop (gimp and inkscape in my case), or music apps like ableton or renoise… lag and choppiness makes vnc almost useless in those cases. Lag and choppiness is not an issue for me when using iTeleport. The connection settings are the same in other vnc apps vs iTeleport and iTeleport always runs smoother. Also browsing webpages with other vnc clients is horrible. A simple 2 finger swipe down or mouse scroll might leave you almost anywhere in the page. This problem also does not happen with iTeleport. I do have one major issue though with iTeleport, and that is integrating gmail accounts with iTeleportConnect. Honestly it has been one of the main things holding me back from buying iTeleport apart from the price in the past. I might be one of the few out there that does not want gmail all over my data, but I really really dont want to associate gmail with anything other than my email. I would much rather use my private servers email for this function. I might be wearing a tin foil hat, but I wont use this feature with gmail exclusively as my only connection/data transfer option. Also, I only really connect to linux servers. I would very much appreciate these added features that have been made available to windows and mac hosts, available to my linux servers. But again if these added features are tied into a specific email provider (gmail), its useless. What about dropbox or box? There are more than a few other ways to move this data between devices. Give me other options and I might be for likely to use them. Just a thought. Also google is not bulletproof, it seems like a bad idea to only use google. If google has issues then iTeleportConnect could be unusable… at least have a fallback service option. If I didnt love how well iTeleport handled as a general vnc client, I might loose 2 stars for this expensive problem. I would like to see terminal functions in the future added to iTeleport, in similar ways available with "remote desktop - vnc" or most other free vnc clients. As far as having a solid reliable and smooth vnc app, iTeleport is the app I always use on my iPad and now my mac. I have used more than a few paid and free vnc apps and iTeleport is the best. Thanks for having mostly awesome updates.

Lack of keyboard support and TLS

The app is pleasing to the eye and certainly nice that it supports both VNC and RDP but what I fail to understand is why do I have to select which keyboard layout I want to use before logging in to my server. Since Im from Iceland I require certain special characters but they remain unavailable since I cant select Icelandic as my keyboard layout - even if the remote server has Icelandic selected by default. Also the client is lacking TLS support so Im unable to log in to remote server that require encrypted clients. Im glad that I only bought this for $2 instead of the full price.

Getting there...

cmd-tab doesnt cycle through local mac apps when RDPed in. ssh tunneling does not obey ssh key authentication (who uses passwords anymore?) When VNCing to a dual monitor machine, the panning around seems a bit much. Move the mouse around just a little and the whole screen pans even though its not necessary.

Selective support

Says it supports RDP and SSH, which is what the VirtualBox host provides in a virtual environment running Oracles solution. Does NOT support VirtualBox as it insists on using RDP authentication. VirtualBox uses RDP protocol, not authentication. Need to make RDP authentication optional.

My most used app

Ive got hundreds of apps on my idevices, but iTeleport has always remained the most useful one since 2010! Ive just bought it for OSX, and it seems to work just as well! Ive never used another app that does remote control as well as this. Works perfectly over 3G, and remote WiFi connections.

Buggy when using RDP

Although RDP is supported (which actually was the factor that made me purchase this App), it is very buggy. I opened up a connection with a Windows Server, and although I selected 1440x900 as the resolutiont, iTeleport displayed only a few pixels on the horizontal x the 900 pixels. After a couple of tries it did connect with the correct resolution, but it had already messed up all the running applications on the server … it resized my windows and there was one that I had trouble getting get back to normal. I was excited about RDP support, but I was dissapointed quickly. Hope they fix this eventually as all other functions work really well.

Awesome app from an awesome team!

Finally a way to connect to and control my other computers from my Mac. Like the iPhone and iPad apps, this is awesome. Well done, iTeleport crew! And with RDP support just added, this app just went from great to awesome!

Finally! RDP!

Ive been using your app since before the appstore! RDP support is refreshing to see. Thanks a lot! iTeleport is now my only remote desktop client!

Useful. Reliable. Works with iTeleport Connect. Worth $50

UPDATE: RDP support in v6.0 takes this app to another level! btw you dont have to use a Gmail account. Its completely optional. If youre an advanced user, you can setup port forwarding and all of that stuff. I dont review a lot of apps, but I also dont pay $50 for a lot of apps either :). This is one of those rare apps that leaves me feeling that I got what I paid for (and then some). Ive used several VNC clients in the past, and this Mac version of iTeleport is one of the best. It took me minutes to setup and the interface is dead simple. I installed iTeleport Connect on my work PC and installed this bad boy up on my Macbook at home. Logged in with my gmail account, et voila! Connected to my work PC with a click. It all worked without a hitch, and it was pretty fast to boot. I cant believe theyve made this so easy. Even my wife thought it was impressive, and amazingly she didnt flinch when I told her I spent $50 bucks on it :) In the future, Id like to see some extensions and improvement to the way the app handles panning around desktops with big resolutions. Im sure theyre already working on that, and I cant wait to see how they improve this app. Overall, hands down the best VNC client on the Mac App Store.

Fix guest log in

Great app, extremely easy to install. i would have prefered some one told me that i didnt need to buy it on both ios and mac Xos. JUST ONE REQUEST PLEASE I am the only one who signes in as administrator , evryone else who will use it is gana be using it as a GUEST. so when i launch the application it takes me to the administrators desktop which is ok, but when i go to sig out so i can sign in in to the guest to see what the person is doing , whell it wont let me :/ fix this and also fix the bugs please other than that great app

Not very good

For RDP support, screen resolution is global rather than per connection. Conencting to gMail is pointlesss. Its worth the 1.99 I paid, but not the 49.99 original price. If you want RDP support on Mac, look at either RDC (Microsoft) or CoRD (both free.

SOOOO easy to use!!!!

I have been using iTeleport for iPhone for about 2 1/2 years now. It has always been so much easier to use than all of the other VNC apps. You just download the app on both devices, sign into Gmail, and YOURE DONE! I cant wait start using iTeleport for Mac today! Thanks for the sale guys/gals!

Awesome

Ive used most of the remote control apps on IOS, and iTeleport is always the one I keep coming back to. Now that I have it on OSX I look forward to the same great experience. RDP Support as well as VNC means I can easliy access all of my computers. Using this over WIFI now and speed is fantastic. Great Job.

Best Ive used

As far as iOS use goes, Ive used Remote HD, LogMeIn, and iTeleport. LogMeIn has some nice features (video streaming, acccess to file system on iOS(limited)/Mac OS(full)), however you need a monthly/yearly subscription to access those features. They do have nice animations and smooth scrolling when browsing the dock icons and scolling through text. That being said, I always come back to the iTeleport iOS VNC because of the full access to all buttons via custom keyboard GUIs. I have been using it to program on my iMac while awhile. Colleages used to laugh until they realized that an iPad connecting via VNC to a 27inch quad core i7 with SSD hindered only by a second or so of internet lag was much faster than their puny laptops. Anyhoo, grabbed the desktop version while it was on sale. Works as I expected having used the iOS version, just signed into gmail and bam! Very nice addition to my tools. Grab it while its on sale!

Great app, for great price

App does what developer promised. Works well and correctly . App is worth paying . It also Logmein , works well . Unfortunately, there are the PRO version monthly costs quite a bit . After purchasing the apps here NO additional cost . Hope a lot of fun to experience
